Under Section 57-A of the Election Act, 2017, "The President shall announce the date or dates of the general elections after consultation with the Commission. "
Elections will be held on Sunday, April 9 in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced by the President.
According to the Constitution of 1973 , Elections must be held not more than ninety days.
Earlier, the Governor of Punjab objected and said that since I did not dissolve the assembly, it is not my job to give the date of the election.
The Election Commission took a stand that it is the Governor's authority to give the date of the election.
Before this, the President wrote two letters for consultation with the Election Commission.
Yesterday, the Election Commission replied to both the letters of the President and said that it is not the President's authority to give the date of the election.
Therefore, today the president of the state announced the date of the election on his own .
Elections in KP and Punjab will be held on Sunday, April 9 , 2023 .
